A UPI PIN sends money—it does not receive it
Do not enter a UPI PIN to “unlock” a refund or incoming payment. Never share the PIN, card PIN or OTP with a caller or chat contact.
Review RBI cautionsIf money is missing or a request looks suspicious
Stop further transfers
Do not pay a tax, release fee, verification charge or second deposit to recover the first amount.
Preserve evidence
Save transaction references, bank statements, URLs, phone numbers, chat exports and screenshots with dates.
Contact the bank
Use the bank or payment provider’s verified channel. Explain that the transfer may involve fraud and ask what immediate action is possible.
Report promptly
India’s National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal lists 1930 for financial cyber-fraud reporting and provides an online reporting route.
Avoid recovery scammers
A stranger promising guaranteed recovery for an upfront fee can create a second loss.
No payout clock or payment guarantee
